A congress in Barcelona tackles the challenges of reporting on climate change
Barcelona will host an international congress on 9 and 10 April that focuses on how the climate crisis is reported and what impact it has on society. The gathering will bring together researchers from 34 universities to analyse new approaches and challenges in climate change communication.
The event, organised by the Societat Catalana de Comunicació del Institut d’Estudis Catalans, will take place between its headquarters and the Blanquerna faculty. Over two days, 54 presentations will be given in different languages, with a strong focus on studies centred on climate communication.
The programme also addresses issues that directly affect urban life, such as mobility, corporate communication, and gender inequalities, broadening the debate beyond the environmental sphere.
Academics from universities such as the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Universitat de Barcelona, and the Universitat Ramon Llull will take part, alongside international centres, ensuring a diverse and multidisciplinary perspective.
The congress will combine in-person and virtual sessions, making global participation easier and extending the reach of the presentations. This approach aims to strengthen the exchange of ideas at a time when climate change communication has become a key challenge.
In a context where information shapes both individual and collective decisions, the event positions Barcelona as a reference point for rethinking how the climate crisis is explained and the role communication plays in social transformation.
