Barcelona refurbishes 55 schools this Christmas with a record investment

During the Christmas holidays, Barcelona becomes a vast scene for educational refurbishments. The Barcelona Education Consortium has decided to take advantage of the school break to begin improvement, expansion and renovation works at 55 educational centres in the city. Investment earmarked for these measures amounts to €10.5 million.

The interventions include improvements to climate control, painting and cladding work, progress in the energy transition, the creation of new shaded spaces, and the refurbishment of playgrounds and furniture. The aim is to modernise the facilities and offer more comfortable and sustainable settings for pupils and teaching staff.

According to the city council, the total investment planned for 2025 amounts to €73.1 million. This sum will be jointly funded by Barcelona City Council and the Department of Education, the two bodies that make up the Barcelona Education Consortium.

Over the course of 2025, a total of 199 measures are expected to be carried out at the educational centres managed by the Consortium throughout the city. These works seek to transform school spaces and adapt them to new educational and environmental needs.
