Barcelona renews festival management at Parc del Fòrum to improve coexistence and sustainability
Barcelona is taking a step forward in managing its music festivals at Parc del Fòrum, with a new plan that balances the city’s vibrant cultural life with the wellbeing of neighbouring areas. This approach responds to both residents’ demands and the needs of the music sector, aiming to strike a balance between entertainment and community responsibility.
From 2026 to 2028, the allocation of musical events at this iconic venue will be through public tender, opening the doors to a wider range of promoters. This regulatory change ensures that activity remains stable, with fifteen days dedicated to musical activities during cultural hours and another fifteen for night-time concerts. Event hours on Fridays will be limited to 1:00 a.m. to make metro use easier and respect residents’ night-time rest.
This new framework excludes already established festivals such as Cruïlla or Primavera Sound, which operate under independent regulations and continue under existing contracts. However, it allows for nine additional days for other music festivals, both large-scale and more intimate formats.
To optimise both logistics and artist contracting, the plan introduces specific obligations for promoters. They must submit detailed acoustic studies, implement safety measures including gender protections, and use sustainable materials. In addition, a tangible social return to the neighbourhood is expected, such as employing local young people or social inclusion initiatives.
Parc del Fòrum, already equipped with advanced acoustic control systems, reinforces its commitment to environmentally and community-friendly practices. Recently, it has adopted measures such as 100% green energy consumption, electrifying its vehicle fleet, and organising fossil fuel-free events, making a significant contribution to the sustainability of the urban environment.
With these policies, Barcelona aims not only to preserve residents’ quality of life, but also to position itself at the forefront of cultural and social adaptation, proactively responding to the dynamics of the city’s music sector.
