Barcelona revives Collserola’s liquid memory: thirteen springs will flow again
This autumn, Collserola will undergo a quiet but profound transformation: thirteen of its natural springs, many of them unused or in disrepair, will be restored to reclaim their role as guardians of biodiversity and heritage.
The project, funded with 1.3 million euros from the European Next Generation funds within the Tourism Sustainability Plan, aims to reconcile the city with its springs.
Among the works, Font de la Budellera stands out, a heritage jewel in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, where the spring-water flow will be maintained and accessibility improved. The Barcelona coat of arms designed by Antoni Tàpies has stood there since 1988. Other springs will recover their history: Mas Guimbau will recall its past as a medicinal-water bottling plant, Can Castellví will incorporate solar pumping and Laberint d’Horta will inaugurate a wildlife circuit with a naturalised pond.

The work will also reach Nou Barris and Horta-Guinardó, with interventions that will restore freshness to forgotten spaces and eliminate inappropriate uses, such as car parks next to springs.
The aim goes beyond restoration: it is about reviving a cultural and natural bond with the mountain range, where each spring will once again be a meeting point, climate refuge and symbol of a Barcelona looking to the future without forgetting its water roots.
