Barcelona launches a clearer housing website with online procedures
Finding support, checking procedures or signing up for the protected housing register in Barcelona should now be easier. The Ayuntamiento has revamped the Habitatge website with a clearer design, a simpler menu and navigation aimed at those who need quick answers.
The change comes at a time when housing remains one of the city’s main concerns. The new platform therefore seeks to organise in one place information about renting, aid, municipal services, public housing stock and access to protected homes.
One of the most important new features is that registration in the Registre de Sol·licitants d’Habitatge de Protecció Oficial de Barcelona can now be completed entirely online. This register is compulsory to apply for many protected-housing calls, so digitising the process avoids travel and reduces paperwork.
The website also strengthens the Habitatge chatbot, which appears from the main page and answers questions about rental regulations, available aid and the steps for registering. The tool is designed for tenants, owners and people who need guidance before starting an administrative procedure.
The municipal aim is to make information easier to understand, especially for people unaccustomed to navigating forms, requirements and administrative language. In an area such as housing, getting lost on a website can mean not applying for aid in time or failing to complete an important registration.
The renewal is part of Pla Barcelona Fàcil, a strategy seeking to simplify the relationship between citizens and the City Council. This plan has already allowed other municipal procedures to be reviewed and expanded the catalogue of available digital transactions.
The Habitatge website is one of the Council’s most visited, a clear sign of demand for housing information in Barcelona. Centralising resources and making them more understandable can help above all people in vulnerable situations, families facing difficulties and residents who need to know what options they have.
The new website does not solve the housing problem on its own, but it does eliminate some of the noise surrounding procedures. When access to an affordable home also depends on registering correctly, understanding requirements and not missing deadlines, a clearer platform can make a real difference.
