Barcelona says goodbye to the sun: rain and cold arrive this weekend

This Friday marks the end of a brief spell of calmer weather in Barcelona: anyone with outdoor plans or outstanding tasks should make the most of the final hours of stability before the radical change. The morning will begin cool (9–11 °C), with low cloud, mist and an almost magical atmosphere at dawn. The day will be variable: clear spells in the pre-coastal area, more cloud on the coast, temperatures of 14–17 °C at midday and isolated highs of up to 21 °C with a spring-like feel. High cloud will arrive in the afternoon, heralding the turn, with strengthening wind and a sea that will go from calm to rougher. The weekend brings a sharp fall in temperature (4–6 °C below normal). Saturday will be unsettled: heavy rain, strong showers from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, a risk of storms or hail, and a snow level falling from 1,600 to 1,000–1,200 m, leaving a possible snowfall in Montseny. Highs in the city will barely reach 13 °C, with a wintry atmosphere taking hold until nightfall.

Winter takes centre stage in the final weekend before the change of season, with upper-level cold-air incursions typical of Catalan weather: sudden drops in temperature, concentrated rain and snowy landscapes unusual in March in areas such as Montseny. Such changes make it necessary to adapt routines and, although they may disrupt Barcelonans' plans, they provide an opportunity to enjoy indoor spaces such as museums or shopping centres.
