Barcelona joins in silence for the victims of the tragic Adamuz accident

Barcelona experienced an emotional minute of silence this Monday in Sant Jaume square, where Generalitat ministers and City Council councillors gathered to pay tribute to the victims of the railway accident in Adamuz, Córdoba. The derailment of the Iryo train, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, has left at least 39 dead and shocked the entire country.

Under persistent rain, Mayor Jaume Collboni, together with several councillors, led the event. Also in attendance was the Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau, who has taken over the duties of President Salvador Illa, currently hospitalised at Vall d'Hebron with an inflammatory condition affecting his legs.

The minute of silence was attended by other ministers such as Sílvia Paneque, Ramon Espadaler, Núria Parlon, Mònica Martínez Bravo and Esther Niubó. The image of political representatives under umbrellas, in silence, marked the day in the Catalan capital.

At the same time, the President of Parliament, Josep Rull, called another minute of silence in the Catalan chamber. All political parties cancelled their usual Monday press conferences as a sign of respect and mourning for the railway tragedy.
