New trees in Barcelona promote green spaces and healthy habits
Barcelona expands its green network with the planting of new trees in Plaça de Gaudí. The initiative is part of the Healthy Cities programme promoted by Sanitas.
The agreement with Parcs i Jardins de Barcelona provides for the arrival of 27 new trees, distributed across different parts of the city. In addition to planting them, the company will take responsibility for their maintenance over the next four years.
The new species include cypresses, plum trees and ginkgos, selected to strengthen the urban tree cover and improve the surroundings. The initiative seeks to increase shaded areas and help mitigate the impact of heat in the city.
The project is linked to promoting healthy habits, with initiatives that encourage people to walk more and reduce car use. Residents' steps are turned into new plantings in different urban settings.
Barcelona is thus continuing to strengthen its green strategy, which is key in the face of challenges such as pollution and high temperatures.
Adding more trees improves comfort in streets and squares, with more shade and pleasant spaces for daily life. It also helps reduce heat and improve air quality, especially in areas with high urban density. In the medium term, these actions transform the experience of living and getting around the city.
