Parc de Can Dragó is remodelled to become greener and more inclusive
Parc de Can Dragó is preparing for a transformation that will change day-to-day life in Nou Barris. The City Council has approved a comprehensive refurbishment with an investment of €3.42 million to renew more than 10,600 square metres.
The project preserves the essence of the park while broadening its use. The children's play area will be tripled in size, and spaces for older people and calisthenics areas will be added, with equipment adapted to different types of users.
Some uses will also be reorganised to help people share the space more harmoniously. The pétanque area will be relocated and a new space for dogs will be created, better integrated and further away from homes. The aim is to reduce disturbance and organise the park better.
The work includes improvements to connections with the surrounding area, with new pedestrian crossings on Rio de Janeiro avenue and more accessible pavements. Inside the park, the focus will be on more vegetation, permeable paving and areas designed to provide refuge from the heat in summer.
The plan is aligned with municipal policies on sustainability and adaptation to climate change, as well as responding to residents' requests gathered through recent participatory processes.
The works, which will last approximately a year, will be organised to maintain access to facilities and businesses in the area. The park will remain a key neighbourhood hub during the work.
The change redefines Can Dragó's role in the city: a greener, more accessible space, ready for a range of uses, reinforcing its function as a meeting place in one of Barcelona's most dynamic districts.
