Barcelona begins the refurbishment of Amílcar Street in Vilapicina. The project seeks to create a single pedestrian platform. 1.98 million euros will be invested. The works will last nine months. Discover how the neighbourhood will change and the improvements it will bring.

Ayuntamiento de Barcelona has given the green light to transform Amílcar Street in the Vilapicina and Torre Llobeta neighbourhood, within Nou Barris district. The intervention will affect around 3,000 square metres, especially at the junction with Vilapicina Street and Fabra i Puig promenade, and will have a budget of €1,980,000.

The works, which will begin after tendering and final approval of the project, will last approximately nine months. The main objective is to turn the street into a single pedestrian platform, improving accessibility and adapting the space to current regulations.

The council highlights that this refurbishment responds to longstanding neighbourhood demands and forms part of a wider urban-renewal strategy in Nou Barris. Other planned actions in the area include public housing in Can Xiringoi gardens, a new municipal nursery school and a children’s centre. In addition, demolition of the farmhouse on Petrarca Street will free up land for future facilities.

The Amílcar Street project also provides environmental improvements, such as planting new trees to combat the heat-island effect, renewing paving and installing new street furniture. Improvements to the sewer network and burial of existing overhead networks are also planned.

The small square at the junction of Amílcar and Vilapicina will be redesigned to optimise mobility and use of public space, facilitating pedestrian movement and improving quality of life in the neighbourhood.
