Barcelona will transform Ciutadella: a new direct promenade to Vila Olímpica

Barcelona is taking a decisive step to transform Ciutadella Park and its surroundings. The City Council has approved the executive project that will allow a new access from Wellington Street, directly connecting Ciutat Vella with Vila Olímpica. This intervention, with an investment of €14.6 million, seeks to facilitate movement between the historic core and the coast, opening the park to new routes and uses.

The plan provides for two main areas of work. First, the area affecting Barcelona Zoo, where the new Wellington access will be created in an area of 16,469 square metres. Second, the section linking Avinguda del Marquès de l’Argentera with Plaça de Joan Fiveller, adding another 9,218 square metres of redevelopment.

The works, according to the municipal schedule, will begin in the second quarter of 2026 and last approximately two and a half years. The aim is to make Ciutadella a more permeable, accessible and connected space, integrating Passeig dels Til·lers and the future facilities of Ciutadella del Coneixement.

With this project, the park will open even more to the city, allowing residents and visitors to cross from Ciutat Vella to Vila Olímpica without detours. The project promises to change mobility and the urban landscape in one of Barcelona’s most emblematic green lungs.
