Barcelona will experience a weekend of intense heat and sultriness
Barcelona begins this Saturday a weekend marked by heat, sunshine and tropical nights. The city will not experience the most extreme peaks of recent days, but conditions will remain fully summery, with maximums around 33 degrees both today and on Sunday.
This Saturday morning will already be warm from early on. Minimum temperatures will remain close to 25 degrees, leaving little room for flats, streets and inner courtyards to cool down after a week marked by persistent heat.
During the middle of the day, the sun will take centre stage and the apparent temperature will be high, especially in dense neighbourhoods, avenues with little tree cover and areas where the asphalt stores heat. The best time for a walk, exercise or getting around on foot will be early in the day or late in the afternoon.
Saturday is expected to be mostly clear, with a dry feel at times and intense heat in the city centre. At the beach, the breeze may soften the feeling somewhat, although it will not prevent the day from being hot for those spending many hours in the sun.
Sunday will follow a similar pattern. Barcelona will maintain highs close to 33 degrees and lows around 26, with sunshine and some cloudy intervals. No significant rain is expected, so outdoor plans can continue, always with precautions against the heat.
The night from Saturday to Sunday will again be one of the uncomfortable points of this spell. High temperatures during the early hours may make rest difficult, especially in poorly ventilated homes or those without air conditioning, an increasingly common problem in summer.
The recommendation is to hydrate frequently, avoid exertion during the middle of the day, seek shade and pay attention to older people, very young children and vulnerable neighbours. Climate refuges, libraries, civic centres and cool spaces remain a good alternative in the afternoon.
The weekend leaves a clear picture of Barcelona’s current summer: less exceptional than an extreme heatwave, but just as demanding for everyday life. The city will be able to enjoy the beach, terraces and cultural activities, although the thermometer will continue to dictate times, routes and plans.
