The CAC demands the withdrawal of the municipal “Barcelona, tu vida” campaign for breaching regulations

The Catalan Audiovisual Council is calling for the “Barcelona, tu vida” campaign to be halted. It considers that it fails to comply with institutional advertising law because it does not provide information about specific public services. The advert, based on residents’ testimonies, is generating intense political and communications debate.

The Catalonia Audiovisual Council (CAC) has requested the immediate withdrawal of Barcelona City Council's campaign entitled “We will create the Barcelona of your life”. According to the body, the initiative does not meet the requirements established for institutional advertising, as it does not communicate any specific public service or provide useful information to citizens.

The campaign, recently launched by the council, is based on testimonies from local residents that reflect the city's social diversity. For the governing team, this approach aims to reinforce collective identity and civic involvement. However, the CAC considers that this type of message does not comply with the legal framework, which requires clarity in the informative purpose and in the provision of public services.

The decision comes amid a debate on institutional communication and Barcelona's public image, an issue that is increasingly present on the political agenda. The CAC's ruling could become a precedent for future campaigns promoted by local and regional administrations.
