Café de Cervantes transforms Plaza de España with literature, terraces and a vertical garden

The long-awaited Café de Cervantes has finally opened its doors in Plaza de España, after years of uncertainty and months of works. The new venue, run by Grupo Casa Remigio — known for Café del Río and other spaces by the Manzanares — is presented as the new gastronomic and cultural epicentre of central Madrid.

Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes' iconic novel, “Don Quixote”, the restaurant offers a menu that pays tribute to the Siglo de Oro and Madrid tradition. Each dish on the menu evokes literary passages and classic flavours reinterpreted with a contemporary touch.

The space stands out for more than its cooking: it has a bookshop specialising in Cervantes and Golden Age literature, where visitors can enjoy a vermouth in a literary setting. It also has two terraces, one at the entrance and another to the side, ideal for any time of day.

The building's façade surprises with a vertical garden that will shortly cover the entire structure, integrating nature and design in the very heart of the city. In this way, Café de Cervantes is establishing itself as the new benchmark for those seeking different experiences in Madrid.
