Madrid school calendar 2026/27: when classes start and when the holidays will be
The Community of Madrid has already set the 2026/27 school calendar, with different start dates depending on the type of education, Christmas and Easter holidays and several non-teaching days.
The 2026/27 school year in the Community of Madrid will begin in early September, although there will not be a single date for all students. The youngest pupils will return to classrooms on 7 September, while those in Secondary and Baccalaureate education will do so the following day. Some educational programmes will begin later still.
When classes begin
On 7 September, the school year will begin for pupils in the second cycle of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education and Special Education, as well as for those combining Primary Education with artistic Music studies.
On 8 September, students in Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate will return to classrooms. On the same day, classes will begin in vocational programmes and Vocational Training, professional Music and Dance conservatoires, integrated arts-education centres and Official Language Schools.
On 9 September, the academic year will begin for students in Higher Artistic Education.
At Adult Education Centres and in the first year of the Plastic Arts and Design courses at Art Schools, classes will begin on 21 September.
When holidays will be
The first long holidays will come in winter. The Christmas holidays will run from 23 December to 10 January, so classes will resume on 11 January.
The non-teaching Easter period will run from 19 to 29 March.
There will also be several public holidays and non-teaching days during the year. General holidays will include 12 October, 2 November and 7 and 8 December. In addition, there will be no classes on 12 and 15 February.
When the school year ends
For most students, the final day of classes will be 18 June. Classes will end that day in the second cycle of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education and Special Education, ESO, Vocational Training, artistic Music studies, professional Music and Dance conservatoires, Official Language Schools, Art Schools and Adult Education Centres.
First-year Baccalaureate pupils will also finish on 18 June. For second-year Baccalaureate pupils, the date will depend on the holding of the PAU and admission procedures.
By contrast, the school year will continue a little longer in Nursery Schools and Children's Homes, where classes will end on 31 July.
