Key changes on the Barcelona Metro: refurbishments and access points affected this month

Several Barcelona Metro stations are facing works that are altering mobility. Av. Carrilet and Plaça de Sants will see changes to access points and lifts. Users should plan their journeys. The improvements seek a more accessible network.

Those who use the Barcelona Metro will notice significant changes to their routine over the coming weeks. Works at strategic points on the network will affect accessibility and daily travel, especially for people who depend on lifts or seek routes without architectural barriers.

At Av. Carrilet station, the lifts connecting to the platform in the direction of Fondo on L1 will be out of service until at least 27 February. This interruption makes access more difficult for people with reduced mobility and requires alternatives to be planned, especially for journeys between Barcelona and L’Hospitalet.

At the same time, Plaça de Sants is beginning a far-reaching transformation. The comprehensive refurbishment of L5 at this station aims to remove obstacles and make passage easier for all users. The project, with an investment of 15.2 million euros, represents the first phase of the complete modernisation of the interchange between L1 and L5. Among the new features are the construction of a larger concourse, the installation of three new lifts and the opening of two additional emergency exits. Access from Carrer de Joan Güell will also be renewed.

Meanwhile, the Can Boixeres workshops and depot, in L’Hospitalet, will also undergo improvements. The works, planned for the summer and lasting 15 months, will increase train stabling capacity and adapt the facilities to the current needs of L5.
