Changes on Madrid Metro: affected stations and alternative services
August will bring temporary changes to Madrid Metro services. Improvement and modernisation works are under way on several lines, so part of the usual journeys will have to be made on free buses. Below, we explain which stations and sections are affected by these restrictions.
Over the coming weeks, travelling on several Metro de Madrid lines will take longer. During August, the company is continuing infrastructure renewal works, so service will remain interrupted on various sections. To make travel easier, free buses have been provided as an alternative.
The longest restrictions affect line 6. Until 2 September, no trains will run between Argüelles and Ciudad Universitaria stations. The route is covered by the free special SE6 service.
Since 2 August, line 7A has also been affected by the renewal works. Until 28 August, the section between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis will remain closed. The free special SE7 service has been provided to connect the two stations.
The changes have also affected the south-east of the city. Until 13 August, line 9B remains out of service between Rivas Vaciamadrid and Arganda del Rey. The special SE9 service operates on this route.
In addition, restrictions on line 10 remain in place until the end of August. Due to refurbishment works at Cuzco station, trains do not run between Plaza de Castilla and Nuevos Ministerios. The free special S10 service operates as an alternative.
If you plan to use any of these lines during August, it is advisable to check the service status before leaving and allow a little extra time for the journey.
