Can Ros, the most iconic rice restaurant in Barcelona, recognised as a centenary establishment by the Generalitat
Barcelona has few places left that can tell their story through their walls, their aromas, and their people.
Can Ros, founded in 1908 in the heart of Barceloneta, is one of them. More than a century after opening as a wine and grocery tavern, the restaurant has been recognised by the Generalitat de Catalunya as a century-old establishment of the city, a tribute to its history, its faithfulness to tradition and its role in neighbourhood life.
The award was presented on 21 October at the Palau de la Generalitat by president Salvador Illa to the current owner, Albert Enrich, in a ceremony that celebrated the living history of Catalan trade and gastronomy. «Thank you for being part of our history», the team wrote on social media, reflecting the emotional bond that Can Ros maintains with its clientele.
Today, the seafood house combines family heritage with a contemporary outlook. Under the direction of Marta Cid and Albert Enrich, and with the talent of chef Jordi Kevin Ballester and Guillem Faura in the dining room, the restaurant offers fresh, locally sourced cuisine in which rice remains the undisputed star.
