Carabanchel hosts the 44th edition of Semana de Cine Español in January

Carabanchel is preparing to become, once again, one of the great meeting points for Spanish cinema in Madrid. The 44th Semana del Cine Español de Carabanchel returns in January with a programme combining screenings, tributes and one of the capital’s most established short-film competitions.

The event will officially begin on 15 January with the Gala de Inauguración, to be held at the Auditorio Caja de Música, the same venue that has hosted the event in previous editions and which will mark the start of a week devoted to creativity, diversity and audiovisual talent.

One of the highlights will come on 17 January, with the Homenaje a la Mujer, a special day intended to recognise and make visible the essential role of women in cinema and culture, both in front of and behind the camera.

Screenings will take place from 19 to 25 January in the festival’s two usual venues: Centro Cultural Fernando Lázaro Carreter and Centro Cultural San Francisco – La Prensa, which will again host a carefully selected range of works intended for all kinds of audiences, from emerging filmmakers to regular viewers of Spanish cinema.

The programme will culminate on Sunday 25 January with the Gala de Clausura and the Entrega de Premios of the 36th Certamen de Cortometrajes de Carabanchel, one of Madrid’s most emblematic short-film competitions. It will bring the curtain down on a week in which the neighbourhood is transformed into a showcase for new perspectives, intimate stories and bold proposals.

Established as an essential date in Madrid’s cultural calendar, Semana del Cine de Carabanchel not only celebrates cinema, but also reinforces its role as a meeting space for creators, professionals and audiences. A festival that invites people to experience cinema, share the emotion and draw inspiration, edition after edition, in the heart of Carabanchel.
