Carabanchel becomes an open-air museum with its new Ruta del Arte Urbano

Carabanchel takes a step forward in Madrid's cultural scene with the launch of its Urban Art Route, a proposal that turns its streets into a genuine open-air gallery. This initiative seeks to bring contemporary art closer to residents and visitors, displaying works by both Spanish and international artists in public spaces across the district.

The route is divided into two main axes that start from the Marqués de Vadillo roundabout and extend along Antonio Leyva and General Ricardos streets. In the first section, walkers can discover sculptures and contemporary pieces located in emblematic squares and corners, such as ‘The Tree of Life’ at 29 Calle de la Verdad, and ‘Hermes’, by Rafael Canogar, at the junction of Antonio Leyva and Josefa Fernández Buterga.

The second axis, along General Ricardos Street, is devoted to urban art at its fullest expression. Murals, graffiti and large-format creations stand out here, with 21 points of interest. The most striking works include the mural ‘13, Rue del Percebe’ at number 46 General Ricardos, ‘La Chulapa’ at 7 Calle de Amalarico, and the intervention ‘Compartiendo Muros’ at 17 Monseñor Óscar Romero.

Madrid thus consolidates its position as a reference point for urban art, adding this route to other notable projects such as ‘CUBOS Madrid’ in Plaza de los Cubos, the forest of colours at IES Emperatriz María de Austria, the ‘Muratalaz’ interventions in Moratalaz, the Athena & Minerva mural on the façade of Studios Livensa Living in Alcobendas and Muelle's iconic signature on Cava Alta Street.
