The Liceu brings Carmina Burana to Park Güell in a free concert
Barcelona will enjoy a special night on 10 April with Carmina Burana arriving at Park Güell. The concert, promoted by the Gran Teatre del Liceu, celebrates the park's centenary and opens this emblematic space to residents.
The event will take place at 20:00 in Plaça de la Natura, one of the city’s most iconic viewpoints. Admission will be free for people registered as residents in Barcelona, although capacity is limited and advance booking is required, making the event an unusual opportunity to enjoy this setting.
The work, composed by Carl Orff in 1936, is one of the most recognised cantatas of the 20th century. Based on medieval texts, it combines themes such as fortune, love and desire, with moments as emblematic as its opening and closing “O Fortuna”.
In this version, the Coro del Liceu will be accompanied by percussion and two pianos, offering a more direct, intimate performance adapted to the park’s open space. The approximate duration will be two hours.
The concert forms part of a strategy to bring cultural heritage closer to the city’s everyday life. In a place such as Park Güell, where tourism and neighbourhood life coexist, proposals like this strengthen the link between culture, public space and citizens.
