Catalonia reinforces safety on the AP-7 after a black year of accidents
Catalonia activates an urgent plan to curb accidents on the AP-7: new speed limits, more speed cameras and strengthened checks for drivers and transport companies.
The Govern has launched an emergency plan to increase safety on the AP-7 stretch between Calafat y Amposta, after a particularly tragic 2025. So far this year, 15 people have died on this stretch, more than twice as many as in 2024, forcing exceptional measures to be activated.
The most significant change is the reduction in speed limits:
Cars may not travel at more than 100 km/h.
Lorries must be limited to 80 km/h.
To ensure compliance, new speed cameras will be installed at strategic points and the police presence will be reinforced. The Mossos d’Esquadra will increase their activity both on the road and from the air, using drones and helicopters to keep watch continuously and act quickly in the event of any incident.
The plan also tightens checks on transport companies, reviewing key aspects such as the rest periods of professional drivers and the technical condition of vehicles. The aim is to reduce risk factors linked to goods transport and improve safety on one of the country’s busiest stretches.
The authorities are confident that this set of measures will help curb the worrying trend and restore safety to a key route for mobility in Catalonia.
