Chinchón, Madrid’s most beautiful village in 2025 according to VIAJAR magazine
With its arcaded square, its aniseed liqueur and its traditional character intact, Chinchón once again ranks among Spain’s most beautiful spots.
VIAJAR magazine has published its annual selection of Spain’s 50 most beautiful towns and villages, one per province, and in the case of the Community of Madrid the choice was a classic that never loses its charm: Chinchón. Located just 45 kilometres from the capital, this municipality once again stands out for its distinctive blend of history, tradition and character. Known for its majestic Plaza Mayor, of medieval origin and with an arcaded structure, Chinchón has managed to preserve its identity without turning its back on tourism. Its convents, theatre, the Parador Nacional housed in a former 17th-century monastery and its wineries give it a scenic air that seems drawn from another era. And to complete the picture, its gastronomy and traditional aniseed liqueur continue to make their mark. It is not the first time it has appeared on this kind of list, but its presence in the 2025 ranking reaffirms that Chinchón is not merely a pretty town: it is a way of travelling back in time without leaving Madrid.
