Boney M., Gipsy Kings and Hakuna will perform free of charge at Cibeles on 11 April

Plaza de Cibeles will host a major free concert featuring Boney M., Gipsy Kings and Hakuna Group Music. The event, promoted by ACdP, aims to bring together thousands of people and make its mark on the city’s cultural calendar. Madrid thus adds a key date for those looking for different plans in April.

Plaza de Cibeles will become Madrid’s musical epicentre with the arrival of the fourth Resurrection Festival. On 11 April, the city will experience an afternoon of free concerts that promises to draw thousands of people and transform the usual pulse of the centre. Boney M., legends of 1970s disco music, and Gipsy Kings, leading figures in French rumba, headline a line-up designed for all audiences.

The event, organised by the Asociación Católica de Propagandistas (ACdP), aims to exceed last year’s attendance figure, when more than 85,000 people filled the square. The programme begins at 18:30 (doors at 17:00) with DJ El Pulpo, followed by performances from Liz Mitchell – the original voice of Boney M. – and André Reyes, leader of the current Gipsy Kings line-up. Hakuna Group Music, a Madrid group returning for the fourth year and established as a phenomenon among young audiences, with hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners on digital platforms, will close the event.

There is something special about the idea of seeing Cibeles full not of cars but of people singing together: families, groups of friends, curious passers-by who stay “for a while” and end up singing along to Boney M. choruses, Gipsy Kings rumbas and Hakuna’s new lyrics beneath the light of Palacio de Cibeles. That blend of seventies classics, Mediterranean guitars and faith pop, which has already filled other squares, makes the Resurrection Festival more than a concert: for a few hours, central Madrid beats to the rhythm of a shared, bright celebration that feels surprisingly close to someone who had only gone out for a walk.

During the presentation, ACdP stressed that the event is an invitation to celebrate the life and hope of Easter through music, with varied styles and an atmosphere intended to be shared with family or friends. The event will also serve as a showcase for new talent: Ángel Catela, winner of the ‘Música y Fe’ competition, will perform his song ‘Gólgota’ live. The day will be hosted by radio presenter Javi Nieves, a familiar voice on Madrid’s music radio.

The Resurrection Festival has become one of Madrid’s major open spring events. Its location in Cibeles, a key point in the city, makes it easy to reach from any neighbourhood and turns it into an appealing option both for people who live in the centre and for those arriving from other areas. The combination of international artists and local proposals reinforces the diverse and festive nature of an event that is already part of Madrid’s cultural calendar.
