Cibeles became a Golf Club: Madrid launched the Spanish Open
Central Madrid turns green: the 2025 Spanish Open Golf Championship was inaugurated in Plaza de Cibeles. The city meets a tournament with global stars and invites all residents to try their hand at the game.
Plaza de Cibeles became the setting for a major sport for one day: an improvised Golf Club was set up right at Palacio de Cibeles to open the 2025 Spanish Open Golf Championship. On a green lawn in the heart of Madrid, world-class stars gathered: Shane Lowry, Ángel Hidalgo, Sergio García and Jon Rahm.
The opening of the tournament, to be held from 9 to 12 October at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, was presented by Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz. She noted that golf is one of the region's most popular sports and plays a key role in the development of urban sporting culture. The event was a clear demonstration of how Madrid is strengthening its reputation as an international sporting capital by hosting prestigious competitions and supporting a sport accessible to all residents.
The putting green at Cibeles will be open to all interested people for two days. There will be masterclasses, mini-competitions and lessons for children and adults, offering an opportunity to try golf in the heart of the city and feel the atmosphere of a major tournament.
