Madrid faces August with closures on lines 6, 7, 9B and 10
August will bring further disruptions to the Madrid Metro and force thousands of passengers to reorganise their journeys. Line 7 will be among the most affected, with the section between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis closed from 2 to 28 August.
During those weeks, the stations of Gregorio Marañón, Alonso Cano, Canal, Islas Filipinas, Guzmán el Bueno, Franco Rodríguez, Valdezarza, Antonio Machado, Peñagrande, Avenida de la Ilustración, Lacoma, Arroyofresno and Pitis will not be in service.
The works will renew the signalling system and various track elements. The aim is to improve the line's capacity and reliability, although the intervention will directly affect neighbourhoods in the north and west of the capital.
The rest of Line 7 will continue operating between Hospital del Henares and Avenida de América. To cover the closed section, EMT will provide a free special bus service between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis.
The works will coincide with the closure of Moncloa on Line 6, scheduled between 1 August and 2 September. The interruption will affect the section between Argüelles and Ciudad Universitaria and will require the use of another special EMT service.
Line 9B will also remain closed between Rivas Vaciamadrid and Arganda del Rey until 13 August. On Line 10, trains will not run between Nuevos Ministerios and Plaza de Castilla while work continues at Cuzco and Santiago Bernabéu.
The overlap of several closures may increase journey times and occupancy on buses and alternative lines. Checking the route before leaving will be particularly important for people working in August or who need to cross the city frequently.
The change will be noticeable at interchanges such as Moncloa, Gregorio Marañón and Plaza de Castilla, but also at neighbourhood stations used every day. For several weeks, getting around Madrid will require more changes, a little more leeway and attention to the alternatives provided.
