Clara Janés awarded the 2025 Francisco de Quevedo Prize for ‘Del imposible adiós’
Writer and poet Clara Janés has been awarded the 2025 Francisco de Quevedo Prize for her poetry collection Del imposible adiós, published by Pre-Textos. The prize, worth 10,000 euros, annually honours an author linked to Madrid whose work in Spanish stands out for its quality. The award ceremony will be held on 12 November at 18:30 at the Biblioteca Eugenio Trías, in Parque de El Retiro.
The jury valued the lyrical intensity and the work’s ability to intertwine philosophy, love and music, creating a poetic universe of great expressive freedom. Del imposible adiós was singled out for the delicacy of its tone and for a cadence that reinforces the intimate nature of the verses.
This prize, founded in 1973 and reinstated in 2021 after a decade of absence, has established itself as one of Madrid’s most important literary events. In previous years, it was received by authors such as Ignacio Elguero de Olavide, Fernando Beltrán, Álvaro Tato and Esperanza López Parada.
With a career marked by diversity, Clara Janés (Barcelona, 1940) has become an essential figure in Spanish poetry. Based in Madrid for decades, her work has been translated into more than twenty languages and combines the mystical with the sensory, dialogue between East and West and the exploration of the limits of language. In addition to her poetic work, she has cultivated narrative, essays and translation, establishing herself as an indispensable voice in contemporary literature.
