Barcelona gains a new temple for music lovers: Club del Disco will open in the Eixample with vinyl, concerts and a listening bar

A new cultural space is coming to Eixample: Club del Disco Barcelona will combine intimate concerts, a vinyl shop and a music bar. The project, promoted by Jan-Erik Grothe and Paula Comberti, seeks to connect Buenos Aires and Europe from the city. Work is already under way.

Barcelona gains a new meeting point for music lovers with the arrival of Club del Disco Barcelona, a space that promises to transform the musical experience in Eixample. This venue, which will open its doors after summer if works progress as expected, will bring together in one place a small-format concert hall, a record shop equipped for listening to vinyl and a café-bar designed for those looking for more than a simple coffee.

The initiative comes from Jan-Erik Grothe and Paula Comberti, who have run the Club del Disco record label since 2005, now based in Barcelona. Both have committed to a multi-purpose concept, convinced that the sale of physical music finds its best ally in live concerts. Inspired by Japanese listening bars, they want any customer to be able to request and listen to the record they want while enjoying the atmosphere.

The 300-square-metre venue, located in a space previously occupied by a Tribal Area shop, is currently empty and undergoing refurbishment. The design has been carefully planned to create a true temple for music lovers, where music is experienced and shared. Grothe, a pianist and guitarist as well as the label's director, and Comberti seek to build a cultural bridge between Buenos Aires and Europe, taking advantage of the diversity of artists in their catalogue.

The Club del Disco label stands out for its commitment to Argentine musicians such as Emilio Solla, Esteban Sehinkman, Pipi Piazzolla and Diego Schissi, although in recent years it has added Catalan talents such as Barcelona Clarinet Players and Endless Trio. In addition, they are releasing historic concert recordings in Buenos Aires by legends such as Sarah Vaughan and Stan Getz, from the archive of Argentine sound engineer Melero.

Club del Disco Barcelona will not limit its programme or offering to its own artists. The shop will offer records from other labels and the hall will host concerts by international musicians, with special attention to quality Argentine artists who have not yet had the opportunity to perform in Europe. One of the five team members is dedicated exclusively to facilitating this expansion of concerts and collaborations.

The project aims to grow beyond Barcelona. There are already Clubs del Disco in Buenos Aires and Shanghai, although without concert halls, and the idea is to extend the model to other cities through franchises in the future.

Club del Disco was founded in 2005 as an independent label focused on promoting quality music, especially jazz and related genres. Over the years, it has built an international network of artists and collaborators, establishing itself as a leading platform for Argentine and European musicians. Its move to Barcelona responds to the desire to connect music scenes and bring innovative proposals closer to new audiences. The listening-bar model, uncommon in the city, reinforces its commitment to active listening and shared experience.
