Rodalies restores the R2 Nord and R11 after the fatal collision in Montcada

The incident occurred around midday between Montcada i Reixac and La Llagosta, around the bridge over the Ripoll river. The incident initially forced trains to stop on one of the main rail corridors linking Barcelona with Vallès Oriental and Girona.

During the closure, Renfe provided a replacement road service between Sant Andreu and Granollers Centre, with intermediate stops. The disruption complicated journeys for those who use the R2 Nord and R11 every day to enter or leave Barcelona.

Traffic later began to recover on a single track, allowing the limited passage of some trains while work continued at the site of the person being struck by a train. Protección Civil also activated the pre-alert phase of the Ferrocat plan because of the disruptions caused to the network.

At 16:56, Rodalies declared the incident resolved and restored traffic on both tracks. The trains, however, continued to accumulate average delays that could exceed 25 minutes while they tried to gradually return to their usual timetables.

The incident once again puts the focus on Montcada i Reixac, one of the most sensitive rail points in the metropolitan area. Several Rodalies lines pass through this municipality, and any interruption can quickly extend its effects towards Barcelona, Vallès and regional connections in the north of Catalunya.

For travellers who still use these lines during the afternoon, the rail service is now operating again, but the return to normal timetables may take time. After several hours of replacement buses, waits and route changes, the main recommendation is to check the train's status before going to the station.
