Complete closure on Diputació: detours and key traffic changes in Barcelona
The closure on Diputació for the L8 works is changing mobility, with new detours towards Vilamarí and Plaça Espanya and staff providing information on alternatives.
From this 12 January, Barcelona's Diputació street will be closed to traffic between Llançà and Tarragona because of works to extend FGC's Line 8. The closure, which will remain in place for months, requires changes to usual routes and affects both drivers and emergency services.
Private vehicles will have to divert via Entença and Calàbria towards Aragó and Tarragona to reach Plaça Espanya. Only local residents and emergency services will be able to travel along Llançà, while visitors to the shopping centre will have restricted access at that same point.
From 26 January, the extension of the launch shaft on Gran Via will reach Vilamarí, bringing further restrictions. Vilamarí will have a compulsory turn towards Gran Via in the Besòs direction, except for buses, emergency vehicles and residents. It will not be possible to cross Gran Via or turn towards Plaça Espanya. In addition, the section between Sepúlveda and Gran Via will become a dead end and will be two-way.
Departament de Territori explains that these changes are due to the start of preliminary work to install the tunnel-boring machine on Gran Via. The restrictions will remain until tunnel boring is completed. In February, construction will begin on an underground gallery connecting the excavation area beneath Gran Via with the logistics area located in Joan Miró park. This gallery will be used to transport the earth removed during the works.
At the same time, work is progressing on an acoustic enclosure that will provide protection during the tunnel excavation, planned for the summer. In Joan Miró park, the pit and acoustic protections for the logistics area are being finalised, along with the structures for the earth conveyor belt. In February, assembly of the microtunnelling machine and excavation of the gallery will begin.
The council has deployed a team of information officers who, during January, will explain the changes and mobility alternatives in the street. In the first fortnight they will be on Diputació; in the second, they will focus on Vilamarí.
