A lorry accident closes the A-2 towards Barcelona and forces traffic diversions

The incident occurred early in the morning and quickly disrupted normal traffic. While emergency and maintenance teams worked in the affected area, the Servei Català del Trànsit activated a special operation to redirect vehicles and avoid an even greater gridlock in the area.

The situation improved partially during the morning. Traffic towards Lleida has already been restored and vehicles are once again passing normally in that direction. However, those needing to reach Barcelona are still obliged to leave the A-2 at exit 549 and continue along the alternative route provided.

The closure particularly affected hauliers, workers and drivers who use this road every day to access the metropolitan area. Queues formed at several points and traffic moved slowly while many users tried to reorganise their journey on the move.

Trànsit recommends taking extra care on the temporary diversions and checking the up-to-date state of the road network before setting off, especially over the next few hours, when traffic levels could remain high.

The A-2 is one of the main connections between Barcelona and inland Catalonia, as well as a fundamental corridor for freight transport. Every day it carries thousands of work and logistics journeys, so any incident on strategic sections such as the one at Òdena usually has an immediate impact on mobility throughout central Catalonia.

UPD: The accident on the A-2 became one of the most complicated road incidents of that morning in Central Catalonia. The refrigerated lorry overturned at Òdena towards Barcelona and forced traffic to be diverted via exit 549, with tailbacks from Jorba and a major emergency deployment. Eight units of the Bombers worked at the scene of the accident, where they carried out work to extricate the driver. According to local media, the lorry driver suffered less serious injuries, while Trànsit progressively reopened traffic as the removal and road-cleaning work advanced.
