Full closure on Rodalies R3: travellers between La Garriga and Puigcerdà affected
The R3 Rodalies line is once again affecting mobility between Barcelona, Vallès Oriental, Osona and the Pyrenees. Travellers moving between La Garriga and Puigcerdà are still dependent on special timetables, replacement buses and service changes on one of the Catalan network’s hardest-hit lines.
The disruption is felt especially by those who use the R3 to go to work, study or connect with mountain municipalities. A journey that ought to be direct becomes a combination that requires checking timetables in advance, allowing more time and accepting that any incident can lengthen the journey.
Rodalies is maintaining an alternative road service to cover part of the affected travel, with connections from Barcelona Fabra i Puig and services towards different points on the line. The aim is to keep mobility going while the works and adjustments that have been disrupting the R3's normal operation for months continue.
The section towards Puigcerdà also has an added difficulty: it is not only a metropolitan line. It connects small municipalities, mountain areas and users who do not always have convenient alternatives by car or bus. When the R3 fails, the impact is felt far beyond Barcelona.
The latest changes come after a long chain of closures, partial resumptions and road services. The gradual reopening of sections has made it possible to restore part of rail traffic, but the line is still operating with limitations and with a service heavily conditioned by the works and available capacity.
For travellers, the practical recommendation is clear: check the status of the service before leaving, review updated timetables and allow more time than usual, especially if the journey depends on bus links or connections towards the Pyrenees.
The situation also brings attention back to the fragility of Rodalies.
