Cycling Solidario: sport and social commitment on the road to the Tour de Francia 2026

Cycling Solidario took place on 28 March at the Moll de Marina de Barcelona as part of the lead-up to the Grand Départ del Tour de Francia 2026. A day designed for everyone, bringing together a good cause and outdoor sport.

Sport lends a hand to social commitment in a different kind of activity: Cycling Solidario. The account promoting the activity, @welcome_barcelona, states that “The event will feature live outdoor cycling sessions, combining sport, citizen participation and social commitment for charitable purposes”. During the morning of 28 March, from 8 to 14 hours, attendees could enjoy cycling sessions in a privileged setting, turning the event into a sporting and charitable experience that seeks to involve the public in one of the world's most important cycling events.

An event with a charitable spirit

The proposal had a total of 113 stationary bicycles set up by the sea, a symbolic figure matching the 113th edition of the 2026 Tour de Francia. Over the course of the day, six 45-minute sessions were held, led by professionals from the city's municipal sports centres.

According to Le tour Barcelona, “The cycling sessions will recreate the routes of the three stages of the start of the Tour de Francia Barcelona 2026, which will be held in Catalonia on 4, 5 and 6 July”. In total, around 900 places were made available for those wishing to take part in person at Moll de Marina.

Sessions inspired by the official route

Each Cycling Solidario session was designed to simulate the stages that will form part of the start of the Tour in Catalan territory, at the beginning of July. The virtual routes allowed participants to experience, from the stationary bicycle, the intensity and characteristics of these stages.

How to take part in Cycling Solidario?

The activity offers different ways to participate. On the one hand, attendees will be able to register individually for any of the scheduled sessions. And, on the other, a team format will also be organised, made up of between two and six people, in which they will have to take turns on a single bicycle with the aim of covering the greatest possible distance, adding a competitive and, at the same time, collaborative component for charitable purposes.

Registration costs 10 euros, and all the money raised will be allocated to research into neurological diseases at Hospital del Mar, through the Fundación Amigos del Hospital del Mar.

If it is not possible to participate that day but there is still a wish to support this cause, there is the so-called “Dorsal 0”, a format that allows a charitable contribution to be made from wherever one wishes. The important thing is to contribute.

People registered for this activity will receive a commemorative event T-shirt, and those taking part in person will also have additional services. “Those taking part at Moll de Marina will also have refreshments/provisions available, and will have a cloakroom to leave belongings. Teams will have their own space”, Le tour Barcelona states. In the case of teams, specific areas will be made available for their organisation and rest.

An event encompassing the whole city

In addition to the main activity at Moll de Marina, the Cycling Solidario sessions will be broadcast live via streaming across the network of municipal sports centres found throughout Barcelona.

Hence, around 25 facilities are expected to join this initiative, thereby facilitating participation from different neighbourhoods, areas and places, taking the event beyond the main and central space.

Sport and solidarity come together here for a good cause, and along the way we can exercise on a spring day by the sea. Registration on this website: Cycling Solidari.
