Madrid’s Fernán Gómez theatre is preparing an exclusive experience for 2026: it will open rehearsals for “The Cherry Orchard”, Anton Chekhov’s classic play, to a very small group of spectators before its official premiere.
The new season will run from 15 February to 12 April 2026 in Sala Guirau, directed by Juan Carlos Pérez de la Fuente and with Carmen Conesa leading the cast. The version, adapted by Ignacio García May, promises a renewed view of this classic about a family facing the loss of its home.
The major novelty is that, from February, a few fortunate people will be able to access rehearsals and see how the work is built from within. Rehearsals will begin on 2 January, but only in February will it be possible to attend as an audience member, allowing people to discover the creative process and the secrets of the staging before the production reaches the general public.
The theatre’s management stresses that, although the play is set in 19th-century Russia, it connects with the present through its portrayal of characters disoriented by major changes. This unique opportunity will allow attendees to experience theatre from a privileged perspective.
