Access to housing in Barcelona and its metropolitan area has become almost unattainable for most people. However, around 150 kilometres to the south, Mora d’Ebre emerges as Catalonia’s most affordable town for buying a home, according to Idealista’s November 2025 report.

This municipality in Tarragona, the capital of Ribera d’Ebre, tops the Catalan ranking with an average price of 747 euros per square metre. The difference is enormous when compared with the regional average of 2,739 euros/m². Buying here means paying 73% less than in the rest of Catalonia.

The report highlights that, although Mora d’Ebre is the cheapest option in the region, it does not hold the national title. Almadén, in Ciudad Real, offers homes at 335 euros/m², making it Spain’s cheapest municipality.

By comparison, other regions have higher prices. In the Community of Madrid, the most affordable municipality is Cadalso de los Vidrios, at 999 euros/m². In the Balearic Islands, the cheapest town, Lloseta, reaches 2,333 euros/m².

The Catalan property market still hides opportunities for those seeking low prices. Mora d’Ebre positions itself as a refuge for those who dream of owning a home without going broke.
