Discover the Relevo Solemne: the most spectacular changing of the guard in Madrid

The Royal Palace of Madrid, with its more than 3,000 rooms and a history shaped by royalty, hosts one of the capital's most striking events each month: the Solemn Changing of the Royal Guard. This ceremony, held only once a month, offers attendees the opportunity to witness a unique military tradition in a monumental setting.

The event takes place at the Prince's Gate, beside the Gallery of the Royal Collections and with privileged views of Casa de Campo. Inspired by the daily changing of the guard in the time of Alfonso XII and Alfonso XIII, the Solemn Changing relives the splendour of the Spanish monarchy in a performance lasting around 50 minutes.

During the ceremony, the Plaza de la Armería becomes the setting for perfectly coordinated movements: from the inspection of the troops and the parade of the incoming guard, to the changeover at artillery, cavalry and sentry posts. The Royal Escort Squadron, the Royal Battery and the Music Unit take part in a carousel that surprises everyone present.

Entry is free, subject to capacity, and access is via the Arco de Santiago, at the corner of Calle Bailén and Requena. An essential date for those seeking to experience Madrid's history and tradition first-hand.
