Ten Barcelona cafés give away free coffee this Monday for Blue Monday

This Monday 19 January, Good News is giving away free coffee at 10 locations in Barcelona. All you need is a smile and the club card. If you are not a member, you can join on the spot. Find out where to get your free drink.

This Monday 19 January, the Good News chain is surprising Barcelona by giving away free coffee in ten of its cafés to brighten up the so-called Blue Monday, considered by many to be the saddest day of the year.

The initiative invites anyone to visit one of the Good News venues with a smile and their Good News club card. If you are not yet a member, you can get the card on the spot free of charge. Moreover, the promotion is not limited to coffee: you can also order it with the milk of your choice or even choose a matcha tea.

The participating establishments are spread across the city: Plaça de Sarrià, Calle Iradier 2, Avenida Diagonal 557 (Illa Diagonal), Plaza Francesc Macià 3, Avenida Diagonal 407, Passeig de Gràcia 107, Rambla de Catalunya 110, Plaza de las Glòries 8, Calle de Pujades 81 and Calle Gran de Gràcia 107.

The origin of Blue Monday dates back to 2005, when the psychologist Cliff Arnall proposed a formula combining factors such as the weather, lack of motivation and post-Christmas debts to identify the third Monday in January as the saddest day of the year. However, the scientific community does not support this theory, and Cardiff University, where Arnall worked, distanced itself from the claim. The concept actually emerged as part of an advertising campaign by a travel agency.
