The 2026 eclipse already has key places in Barcelona for not missing the peak moment
Barcelona is preparing for one of the most striking astronomical scenes of recent decades. On 12 August 2026, the city will experience an almost total solar eclipse that will obscure 99.8% of the sun at sunset, creating an image that will not be repeated for generations.
The phenomenon will begin at around 19:35 and reach its peak at 20:29, just before sunset. That coincidence will make choosing the right location crucial: a few metres or poor orientation can completely change the experience.
Experts recommend avoiding areas where mountains or buildings block the western horizon too early. This is why elevated points close to the sea take precedence over more enclosed areas or those near Parc de Collserola.
Among the places with the best conditions are Castell de Montjuïc, mirador del Migdia and various terraces facing west. All of them make it possible to keep the sun in view for longer and enjoy the climactic moment better.
Anticipation is already beginning to grow because the eclipse will coincide with high summer and with thousands of people in the city. Viewpoints, beaches and terraces could fill up hours beforehand as people seek a good position from which to follow the phenomenon.
Barcelona will thus once again experience one of those collective moments that transform urban space for a few hours. When the sky changes so dramatically above the city, the spectacle ceases to be merely astronomical and also becomes a shared experience.
