The Burial of the Sardine 2026 in Barcelona brings Carnival to an end on Wednesday 18 February. The city bids farewell to King and Queen Carnestoltes with processions, performances and sardine feasts in different neighbourhoods. Although the final programme has not yet been confirmed, districts are already preparing their traditional celebrations to welcome Lent.

In Ciutat Vella, Barceloneta hosts its funeral procession on Wednesday 5 March at 17:30, departing from Plaça de la Barceloneta and ending at Sant Miquel beach. The maritime atmosphere and music accompany the farewell.

In Sants-Montjuïc, La Marina celebrates Dimecres de Cendra in Jardins de Can Farrero at 17:30, with a performance by Betu el pallasso. In Sants, the Auditori de les Cotxeres hosts the event at 18:30, followed by a procession to Plaça de Bonet i Muixí and a popular sardine feast.

Les Corts is organising its Burial of the Sardine and fire show in Plaça de Comas at 20:00. The district of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi invites residents to Jardins del Centre Cívic Sarrià at 18:30, with a parade through the streets and a symbolic burning in Plaça Josep Obiols.

In Sant Andreu, Plaça d’Orfila will be the venue at 17:30, with a sardine workshop and theatrical performance. Torre de la Sagrera is also holding its own burial at the same time, with a parade to the Encarnació Colomina gardens.

Sant Martí begins its procession at 17:30 at Centre Cívic de Sant Martí and ends at the park of the same name, where a popular sardine feast is organised. Horta-Guinardó opts for New Orleans style: music starts at Mas Guinardó at 17:00 and the troupe travels through the neighbourhood to Centre Cívic Guinardó for the final ceremony.
