Taking a siesta in central Madrid now brings a reward and changes the urban routine
A shop in central Madrid offers 300 euros to anyone who dares to take a siesta in its shop window. The campaign seeks to champion rest in urban life. It is now possible to sign up and take part.
In a city where haste sets the pace and rest seems like a luxury, an unexpected proposal has entered Madrid’s agenda: take a siesta in a shop window and receive up to 300 euros for it. The brand Colors of Madrid has launched a campaign inviting residents to stop, literally, amid the bustle of the city centre.
The activity will take place at 31 Calle Carretas on 27 and 28 February and 1 March. On those days, the shop window will be transformed into a small haven of calm, intended for people who want to sleep, read or simply switch off while the city keeps moving on the other side of the glass.
To take part, all you need to do is complete a form with your personal details and explain, through the brand’s social media, why you should be chosen. The reward can reach 300 euros, a sum that makes the siesta as appealing as it is unusual for people seeking different experiences in Madrid.
The initiative not only highlights the Mediterranean pause, but also invites people to rethink the use of urban spaces and Madrid residents’ relationship with rest. At a time when the city seems never to stop, the proposal connects with those who feel that pausing, even for a moment, can change their perception of the day.
Calle Carretas, a few steps from Puerta del Sol, is one of those places where Madrid’s pulse can be felt strongly. Among historic shops and the comings and goings of tourists and locals, any intervention in its shop windows does not go unnoticed. Actions like this reflect how the city centre continues to reinvent itself, blending tradition with new ways of experiencing public space.
