Two new Cercanías stations will transform the connection between Chamartín and the Corredor del Henares

The future stops, promoted by Adif, seek to create an alternative that avoids passing through Atocha, reducing journey times and easing congestion at one of the city’s main rail hubs.

One of the stations, Campo de las Naciones, will be located next to IFEMA, making it easier to reach one of Madrid’s most active business and events areas. The other, Las Rejas, will serve the Plenilunio area and growing residential areas in the east of the capital.

The project is at the study stage, with an initial investment of more than two million euros to define the best technical and urban configuration before construction begins.

The expansion of Cercanías responds to the need to adapt the network to Madrid’s growth and to new mobility flows between outlying neighbourhoods and centres of economic activity. Infrastructure such as this not only improves connectivity, but also helps balance the use of public transport, reducing pressure on overcrowded stations and offering faster, more efficient alternatives. In a context of urban expansion and increasing daily travel, projects of this kind reinforce the role of rail as the central axis of metropolitan mobility.
