Muhba's secret storehouse reveals Barcelona's hidden treasures

For a few hours, the storeroom of the Museu d’Història de Barcelona opens its doors. Everyday objects and unique pieces show the city's past life. Barcelona hides part of its memory in little-known places, far from the usual routes and great monuments. The storeroom of the Museu d’Història de Barcelona, located in an industrial unit in Zona Franca, holds thousands of objects that rarely see the light. For a few hours, the most curious can enter this space and discover pieces that tell the story of the city's everyday life.

The “Museu endins” initiative provides access to this store, where everything from old tools to small household items is preserved. Each object, though seemingly insignificant, helps reconstruct what life was like on Barcelona's streets decades or even centuries ago. These are not works of art, but fragments of the past that explain the evolution of the city and its neighbourhoods.

Walking through the storeroom's corridors is like travelling through time. Visitors are surprised to find everything from tiles salvaged from vanished buildings to toys, furniture and utensils that formed part of the daily lives of generations of Barcelona residents. The experience invites people to look at the city with different eyes and value details that usually go unnoticed.

The Museu d’Història de Barcelona, known as Muhba, manages a network of heritage spaces spread across the city. Its mission is to preserve and share urban history, bringing citizens closer to their own past. The Zona Franca storeroom is one of the least accessible places, but also one of the most fascinating for those who wish to understand Barcelona beyond its tourist icons.
