The Altar of the Dead has returned to Madrid, this year in a Mexican cabaret style

Casa de México once again invites its visitors to one of autumn’s most eagerly awaited events: the 2025 Altar of the Dead. This year, author Guillermo González has transformed the traditional memorial into a colourful spectacle inspired by the golden age of Mexican cabarets.

The project, titled Cabaret El Recuerdo, combines the magic of traditions with the brilliance of the stage: neon lights, feathers, fishnet stockings and coloured fireworks. Decorative elements include twelve catrinas, a chandelier of skulls, a tzompantli with dozens of acrylic calacas and handmade glass balls.

‘This altar is not only a tribute to memory, but also a reminder that life, like cabaret, should be lived with passion, music and love,’ González says. The installation can be seen free of charge until 9 November.
