Street art emerges from the shadows: a free exhibition opens in Madrid, from the first graffiti to Banksy's works
An exhibition has opened in Madrid showing the evolution of street culture from the underground to museums.
The free exhibition traces the path of urban art from clandestine graffiti to its international recognition.
Fundación Canal presents the exhibition “Urban Art. From the Origins to Banksy”, which brings together more than 60 works by key artists in the genre, from the first New York signatures of the 1960s to emblematic creations of the 21st century. The tour is arranged chronologically: from street signatures and social statements to major artistic interventions and their entry into cultural institutions.
The exhibition pays particular attention to Banksy, his work and his influence on the global perception of urban art. Alongside him, works by Basquiat, Keith Haring, JR, Invader, Os Gêmeos, Vhils and prominent Spanish artists are presented. The exhibition can be visited until 3 May and offers a view of street art as a living language of the city and its time.
