The Madrid–Málaga AVE restores direct trains and changes travel after the works
The high-speed connection between Madrid and Málaga is changing the pace of travel once again. From 27 April, direct trains return after weeks marked by changes of service and bus journeys.
The companies Iryo and Ouigo have already put tickets on sale for that date, ahead of the official announcement. For its part, Renfe has removed the bus section that connected with Antequera.
The change is significant for regular travellers. The journey is once again direct, without interruptions, and returns to travel times close to three hours between the two cities.
The reopening, however, will be partial. Adif has confirmed that only one track will be operational on the section affected by works in Álora, which entails speed restrictions and fewer train services.
Even so, the operators are confident about the recovery of the service. Iryo expects several daily departures, while Ouigo will progressively expand its offering in the following days.
27 April remains the key date, although it is still provisional. The progress of the works and safety tests will determine whether the timetable is met without changes.
The Madrid–Málaga corridor is one of the most heavily used high-speed rail routes in Spain. The return of direct trains, even with restrictions, brings relief to thousands of travellers who depend on this connection to work, travel or maintain their routine between the two cities.
