The Indians already have dates: nine days of festivities during La Mercè
The Festa Major dels Indians already has dates for 2026. The small neighbourhood in the Sant Andreu district will hold its festivities from Saturday 19 to Sunday 27 September, nine days that will once again partly coincide with La Mercè and bring activity to streets, squares and facilities in Congrés i els Indians.
The Ayuntamiento de Barcelona already officially includes those dates in its agenda. The event is organised by the Associació de Festes Antic Barri Indians, with carrer de Jordi de Sant Jordi as one of the points traditionally linked to the celebration.
What has not yet been publicly finalised is the full programme. As of 7 September, the organisers are still putting the programme together, and the 2026 document with all events, times and locations has not yet been published. It is therefore advisable to wait before setting a time for the correfoc, the confetti battle or the fireworks display.
What is known is the kind of celebration the neighbourhood is preparing. Popular culture, concerts, sport and neighbourhood meals usually form the core of these days. The planting and parade of gegants, the correfoc, musical vermouths and fellowship dinners are some of the proposals repeated in recent editions and which the organisation again points to as characteristic ingredients of the Festa Major.
There is also a first 2026 activity already appearing in cultural calendars: a performance by Cobla Contemporània linked to the Festa Major in Sant Andreu is announced for Sunday 27 September at 12:00. The rest of the calendar will have to be completed when the definitive programme is published.
The festival will coincide in its final stretch with La Mercè, scheduled this year from 23 to 27 September. This will make it possible to connect Barcelona’s major celebration with a much more neighbourhood-focused programme in the Indians, but it will also concentrate numerous activities in the city during those days.
The area covered by the Festa Major is the Indians neighbourhood, within el Congrés i els Indians, and it should not be confused with the Festa Major of neighbouring Congrés, which this year will be held later, from 3 to 11 October. To reach the area, the closest metro references are Congrés-Indians and La Sagrera stations on the L5, and La Sagrera on the L1.
Anyone wishing to attend specific events will still have to wait a few days. The dates are confirmed — 19 to 27 September — but the times currently circulating in some listings largely correspond to the 2025 edition and should not be used as this year’s programme.
