Metro de Madrid single ticket to have flat fare, changing city routines

Metro de Madrid is giving daily mobility a new direction: starting in October, the single ticket for zone A will have a fixed price of 1.50 euros. This decision removes the variability of fares based on distance and stations, simplifying costs for those travelling within the city limits.

Until now, the price of a single ticket ranged from 1.50 to 2 euros, depending on the journey. With the new flat fare, any trip within zone A—including Line 1 of Metro Ligero—will cost the same, regardless of the number of stations travelled.

The rollout will be gradual, but the change will be especially noticeable for short journeys and in the daily planning of those who use the metro to get to work, class, or their usual activities. The measure aims to make the fare system easier to understand and speed up access, especially during peak hours.

This adjustment comes as Madrid continues to adapt its transport network and urban space to new needs. Recently, the city has committed to projects that are transforming daily life, such as the park over the M-30 that will connect neighbourhoods and change the landscape in Ventas.
