Sunshine drives outings in Barcelona and forces mountain rescues to be reinforced
The start of Holy Week in Barcelona is marked by good weather and more outdoor plans. Sunshine and mild temperatures, which will exceed 20 degrees during the weekend of 4 and 5 April with mostly clear skies, are encouraging thousands of people to head into nature.
This increase in activity is already having consequences. In just one day, the Bombers de la Generalitat carried out 15 rescues in Catalonia, many of them in areas near the metropolitan area, where visitor numbers soar on public holidays.
Among the interventions, two cases in the Barcelona area stand out. In Viladecans, a woman had to be evacuated after being injured in a wooded area, while in Castelldefels another person required assistance after a blow in the Serra del Llopard.
The fine weather has also been felt in heavily visited places such as Collserola and paths near the coast, where the increase in visitors raises the risk of incidents, especially among those who do not plan their outing well.
Emergency services stress the importance of checking routes and consulting the forecast before setting out. Although the weekend is expected to be stable and pleasant, with more sunshine and rising temperatures, the natural environment still demands caution.
For those making the most of these days, the combination of favourable weather and high visitor numbers makes the mountains a more demanding space, where poor planning can quickly result in an emergency response.
