New direct line will connect La Marina and the Port with central Barcelona
Mobility in Barcelona is about to change in one of its most disconnected areas. La Marina del Prat Vermell and the Port will have a direct express bus to Drassanes, cutting the journey to just 10 minutes.
The City Council has confirmed that the line will be operational before the end of 2026. The project has already completed all administrative procedures and only the stops and the vehicles that will provide the service remain to be defined.
The route will cross the Morrot passage, a key point that for decades has acted as a barrier between the city and the port. Thanks to this new connection, journeys will no longer depend on the usual traffic jams on the Ronda del Litoral and will become faster and more reliable.
The new line responds to a long-standing demand from local residents, who had been calling for a direct connection between the Zona Franca promenade and the centre. The route will make use of part of the port’s former railway line, opening a corridor that has until now been closed to public use.
The project forms part of a broader transformation of the waterfront. The future urban axis will be around three kilometres long and will combine urban sections with others with restricted access within the Port de Barcelona, finally connecting the area with the heart of the city.
In addition to improving mobility, the initiative changes the relationship between neighbourhoods and the centre. Reducing journey times not only makes everyday life easier, but also brings job opportunities, services and leisure closer to areas that until now have been more isolated.
The Morrot passage is no longer a boundary, but a new urban axis. The integration of Marina del Prat Vermell into Barcelona’s dynamics marks a turning point in the city’s growth and in how its neighbourhoods connect with one another.
