Café de Cervantes transforms Plaza de España with traditional flavour and culture
Café de Cervantes opens in Plaza de España with a traditional menu, cuisine inspired by Don Quixote and a cultural space with a lounge and book lending.
The much-anticipated Café de Cervantes has now opened its doors in Plaza de España, occupying the iconic kiosk where the famous green whale used to be. The venue, run by Grupo Casa Remigio, offers a culinary proposal centred on traditional Madrid cooking and Madrid vermouth, with a special nod to the literature of the Siglo de Oro.
The establishment has a large indoor dining room with capacity for 100 people. In addition, two outdoor terraces are planned but have not yet been installed. The menu includes traditional dishes such as a fried calamari sandwich, Spanish omelette, baby squid croquettes in their ink, Manchego ratatouille and oxtail, among others. Many of these dishes appear in Cervantes's masterpiece, Don Quixote, reinforcing the space's literary inspiration.
Café de Cervantes is not only committed to gastronomy; it also includes a cultural corner. Customers can enjoy a free book-lending service featuring Cervantes and other authors of the Siglo de Oro, turning the kiosk into a meeting place that is both culinary and literary.
Its opening hours are extensive: every day from 8 in the morning until 2 in the morning, inviting locals and visitors to discover this new space in the heart of Madrid over the next 25 years.
